Oct 10, 2017 10:34 PM

The United States lost 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday while both Honduras and Panama won their matches, which eliminated them from the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Panama found a goal in the 87th minute to beat Costa Rica 2-1 to earn the final qualifying spot. Honduras advanced to the intercontinental playoff against Australia.

Christian Pulisic gave the United States their lone goal after they fell behind 2-0 before halftime.

The United States last failed to reach the World Cup in 1986.

With the World Cup likely coming to the United States in 2026, they would be guaranteed qualification for that edition of the tournament.

Gerard Pique: Nobody Can Doubt Commitment To Spanish Team

Oct 4, 2017 12:19 PM

Gerard Pique's future with the Spanish national team remains uncertain following Catalonia's independence vote.

"No one can doubt my commitment to the Spanish national team," said Pique.

Pique believes he can remain part of the Spanish team despite his position on Catalonia.

"I think someone who is pro-independence can play for the Spain team. If there is no Catalan national team and you don't have anything against Spain, you think Spain is great and you think the people are great, why can't you play for them?"

Gerard Pique Prepared To Quit Spanish National Team

Oct 2, 2017 9:16 AM

Gerard Pique is prepared to quit the Spanish national team amid Catalonia's referendum on its independence.

Pique has long been a supporter of Catalan independence.

"If anyone believes I am a problem for the federation, I will step aside from the national team before the World Cup [in Russia next summer]," Pique said.

"Going with the national team is not a competition in patriotism, it's about trying to play the best you possibly can."
